COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Analyze the role of professional assessment for clients with presenting sexual challenges.
2. Assess the application of assessment practices for sexually challenged client populations.
3. Identify the heightened ethical role of the professional therapist when working with sexually questioning client populations.
4. Distinguish the ethical, legal, and professional issues that are specific to working with sexually questioning and sexually challenged clients.
5. Evaluate the role of the therapist in applying varied therapeutic orientations which contribute to desired behavioral change in sexually challenged individuals.
6. Appraise the role of therapy in addressing developmental challenges which manifest themselves as sexual questions and challenges.
7. Differentiate the role of satisfying versus unsatisfying sexual functioning across the lifespan.
8. Estimate the potential for sexually challenged behavior as the result of crisis experiences.
9. Analyze the impact of sexual addictive behaviors upon the individual.
PSYU 581: AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT:
You will work with your group throughout our course in the creation and presentation of a group project which will illustrate an authentic assessment of your learning.
You will sign up for your topic using a sign-up Wiki.
Your group presentation will focus on a component of one of the following general topics:
(100 points)
Infidelity (Presented Week 4)
Sexual Diversity (Presented Week 5)
Gender Identity (Presented Week 6)
Sexual Challenges (Presented Week 7)
Your group will decide the focus of your presentation within the boundaries of your assigned general topic and will discuss the importance of your project’s exploration.
Begin your presentation with a detailed academic explanation/definition of the specific focus your group has chosen. How did your group determine the focus of your presentation and why do you consider this area of your general topic to be a priority?
Create a client scenario illustrating an individual challenged by this issue.
Describe the client’s presenting challenges including their personal information.
What specific information will you need to know about your client?
Discuss your initial treatment plan and justify your choice.
What personal biases might you need to recognize when treating this client?
What ethical concerns would need to be considered?
Week 2: Use Wiki to sign up for your group (10 points)
Throughout this course you will be working in a small group to complete a group project and presentation video recording. Group projects and presentations will be turned in to your instructor in Weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7 before the synchronous Zoom class meeting.
Click on the Week 2: Group Project Presentation Sign Up to access a wiki. On the wiki, select a group topic in the week you would like to present. Write your first and last name next to your chosen group along with your Brandman email. Keep in mind that each group will only have 5-6 people.
Find the group project and presentation instructions and grading rubric in the Course Information tab. For help with using the wiki, access the Using Blackboard folder in the Preparing for Class Tab. You must complete the wiki activity by 11:59pm, Sunday, Week 2.
This assignment is worth 10 points.
Week 3: Submit the outline for your group presentation (40 points)
By Sunday evening of week three, your group will submit a detailed outline of your planned presentation's major components illustrating each group member's participation in the creation of the outline and in the final presentation. Each member of the group will submit the same outline which will include listing any group member who failed to participate and contribute to the outline.
Week 8: Submit the written script for your presentation (50 points)
Each group member will submit a written script outlining your specific participation in the creation of your group’s presentation. Your script will include a discussion of your individual contribution to the project as well as the exact script you used in recording your audio portion of the presentation.
Your group presentation will be made during our weekly Zoom course meeting as outlined above.
Your group will create a video presentation (with recorded dialog) including the participation of each member of your group. Your presentation should be 15 – 20 minutes in length. Your presentation must be sent to your professor before noon on the day of presentation.
